Applying DTF Transfers with a Household Iron
Step-by-Step Tutorial: Applying DTF Transfers with a Household Iron
Applying DTF transfers with an iron is simple and effective if you follow these steps. Let’s get your design looking sharp and durable!
1. Position Your Design
- Align the Artwork: Carefully place the transfer on your garment in the desired location.
- Smooth the Fabric: Ensure the fabric is flat and wrinkle-free.
Pro Tip: Take your time aligning to ensure the design is exactly where you want it before pressing.
2. Set Your Iron
- Heat Setting: Set your iron to the Cotton/Linen setting, which provides a high temperature. Adjust if necessary, but ensure the heat won’t burn your fabric.
- Pre-Press Setup: Place a piece of parchment paper or a Protective Guard Sheet over the transfer.
3. Press the Transfer
- Press with Firm Pressure: Hold the iron firmly over each section of the transfer, applying steady pressure for 20 seconds. Avoid moving the iron around to maintain even heat.
- Check Adhesion: If parts of the transfer aren’t sticking, increase the heat slightly and press again with more pressure.
4. Peel the Transfer
- Peel Hot or Cool: After pressing, wait a few seconds and then peel the transfer film off.
- Re-Press If Needed: If any part of the design hasn’t adhered, place the transfer back down, increase heat by 15°F if possible, and press again.
Pro Tip: Captain Printing’s DTF transfers are durable, so repeated pressing won’t damage the design.
5. Final Press for Durability
- Cover the Design: Place parchment paper or a single layer of t-shirt material over the design.
- Final Press: Press with the iron for an additional 15 seconds. This step enhances durability, softens the print, and reduces shine.
- For a Glossy Finish: Use a Protective Guard Sheet instead of parchment paper for a shinier result.
6. Washing Instructions
- Wash Inside Out: Use cold water to protect the design.
- Hang Dry Recommended: Air drying is best for iron-applied transfers. If using a dryer, dry on low heat with the garment turned inside out.
Note: Household irons can vary, so feel free to test and adjust pressure and heat settings to find what works best. The more thorough your pressing, the longer your design will last.
Follow these steps, and your DTF transfer will be vibrant and long-lasting, even after multiple washes. Ready to start creating? Explore Captain Printing’s DTF Transfers Today!
